With the decade ending, most of us are taking the time to reminisce and look back at the most influential sneakers from the past ten years. Although it’d be tough to narrow it down to just ten models, we think it would be hard-pressed to leave out the adidas Ultra Boost from the influential list, right?
Think about it. The adidas Ultra Boost was at one point the most coveted sneaker in the game thanks in large part to its comfort and sleek/casual aesthetic. Oh yeah, and shout out to Kanye West for wearing them during a performance to help shed some much needed light on this amazing silhouette.
During its peak in popularity, the Ultra Boost was in such high demand that it was nearly impossible to find them at your local sneaker store. Over the years, the Three Stripes has released a handful of classic adidas Ultra Boost colorways, today we take a look at what we feel are five of the craziest Ultra Boost colorways ever released.
adidas Ultra Boost Nice Kicks Woodstock 50th Anniversary
I mean, it doesn’t get any more crazy than a tie-dye upper, right? This collab between the sneaker retailers and adidas celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock festival. The wild upper is inspired by the hippie movement which took place at the Woodstock music festival where people would travel all over the world to celebrate love, peace and music. As a finishing touch, co-branded tongue tags and insoles and a gum rubber outsole not only help give the shoe more of a collaborative feel, but also help make this an instant classic.
BAPE x adidas Ultra Boost Green Camo
Let me tell you something. The BAPE x adidas Ultra Boost Green Camo dropped early on this year. Yes, it sold out rather quickly and is widely considered a big success. That said, had BAPE and adidas dropped this collab 3-4 years ago when Boost popularity was at an all-time high, this BAPE x adidas Ultra Boost Green Camo would have been on everyone’s list of top sneakers of the past decade. Perfectly executed, just perhaps dropped too little too late?
Missoni x adidas Ultra Boost Multicolor
Not only is the Missoni x adidas Ultra Boost Multicolor one of the craziest colorways from this list, it also has to be one of the most underrated Ultra Boost collabs that have dropped in the past couple years. Bold in appearance, this collab with the Italian fashion house comes with a multicolor motif that takes care of the entire upper. Missoni has taken the Ultra Boost’s flexible Primeknit upper and made it look as if it was in fact woven out of a traditional yarn, even melding the midfoot cage into the upper for a one-piece look. I’m certain that plenty of necks will be turning every single time you put these bad boys on.
adidas Ultra Boost Solar Orange
adidas launched the adidas Ultra Boost line back in 2015. When the OG colorways began to drop, most of them were subtle and calm. You had your pairs done in shades of White, Grey and Black. Then way out in left field, adidas also decided to drop this super bright Solar Orange pair. Sticking out like a sore thumb, this colorway of the Ultra Boost was definitely considered one of the craziest and boldest offerings during the early years. Close to five years later, that Orange Primeknit upper still pops, right?
adidas Ultra Boost Buzz Lightyear
One of the more recent releases from this list, the adidas Ultra Boost Buzz Lightyear is part of the Toy Story x adidas collection. The collection had a good amount of footwear to choose from, but we feel as if this pair is the perfect depiction of Buzz Lightyear. Using the UB 2019 as its canvas, the color scheme and color blocking used on the shoe effortlessly screams out Buzz, right? Although a predominantly White sneaker, the hits of neon color throughout the upper and custom insoles really make this pair one of our favorites.
