Grecco’s one-time success through the hit Laverne & Shirley’s tune “Making Our Dreams Come True”

American singer and one-hit wonder Cyndi Grecco was born in New York City, New York on May 19, 1952, according to RateYourMusic.com.

It was Grecco who sang the theme song of the popular American sitcom series (shown on ABC) Laverne & Shirley entitled “Making Our Dreams Come True.” This catchy and irresistible tune was written by Norman Gimbell and Charles Fox. The two songwriters had also written a series of of tunes together in the past, including the theme song for Happy Days. Laverne & Shirley, by the way, was the spinoff show from Happy Days, and became successful in its own merit.

Gimbell and Fox originally titled the song as “Hoping Our Dreams Come True” was played in front of the producers, they said it was a “really nice song,” but they felt it didn’t fit for Laverne & Shirley‘s characters, which were strong-willed women. So Gimbell and Fox changed the title of the song from “Hoping Our Dreams Come True” into “Making Our Dreams Come True.” Grecco was tapped to sing the theme tune, and her back-up singers were composed of the Ron Hicklin Singers.

When “Making Our Dreams Come True” became popular in the TV series, the song was also released subsequently as a single on Private Stock label. It paced the Billboard Hot 100 charts, eventually peaking at #25 on July 25, 1976. It also reached its peak position at #13 on the Billboard adult contemporary charts around the same period.

After the success of “Making Our Dreams Come True”…

Following the chart success of “Making Our Dreams Come True” was a full-length LP. Grecco’s second single was a disco-laced tune called “Dancing, Dancing.” But this one didn’t make a dent on the charts.

Grecco also sang another theme number for another ABC sitcom Blanksy’s Beauties, another spin-off series from Happy Days, although not as successful asLaverne & Shirley. The theme song is titled “I Want It All.”

Despite this, Grecco remained a one-hit wonder, so we should remember her whenever we happen to hear “Making Our Dreams Come True,” the tune which was popularized by one of America’s most well-loved sitcoms.
