Craziest Guinness World Records

Many of us love to exceed our achievements — whether we are gunning for an Olympic world record or for our personal records done straight from our backyards. It’s a part of our nature to push ourselves to the limit. Many people are trying to outdo other people (and also themselves) so they can be included in the Guinness Book of World Records. With each passing year new records break the old ones and the standards are very high. However, in this gallery we are not compiling who is just the tallest or the shortest. We also list some of the wackiest, silliest, and weirdest records tallied in Guinness’ history (we also include one amazing feat that was rejected by Guinness).

World’s Shortest Man

Khagendra Thapa Magar is a man from Nepal. A primordial dwarf, he measures 2 feet and 2 inches tall, and weighs only 5.5 kilos (12 pounds 2 ounces).

Well, Khagendra is formerly the shortest man in the world. Called “Little Buddha,” he was also the shortest teenager in the world when he dethroned the Colombian dwarf Edward Nino Hernandez in 2010. However, he eventually lost to 1’10” tall Junrey Balawing of the Philippines who took the title of the Shortest Man in the World in 2011.

The Most Surfers on One Wave

Surfers in Cape Town, South Africa succeeded in their attempt to break the record of “The Most Surfers on One Wave” in 2009. An estimated 120 surfers rode on the wave in Cape Town’s Muizenberg beach. The record was previously held by Brazil in 2008.

Largest Commercially Available Hamburger

Check out this mammoth burger at Mallie’s Sports Grill and Bar in in Southgate, Michigan, USA. The restaurant’s “Absolutely Ridiculous Burger” weighed 84.3 kilos by the time it was unveiled in 2009, making it the biggest commercially available burger ever. Meaning, it’s part of the restaurant’s menu, which you can order for a hefty price tag of $400.

Largest Rubber Band Ball

You may love to mount on this giant rubber band ball and jump with it! It was made by Joe Waul in the USA and was measured in Lauderhill, Florida in the USA in 2008.

A total of around 700,000 rubber bands of all sizes were used in the creation of this giant ball, which Waul began making back in 2004. It measured 6 feet and 7 inches high, and 25 feet and 4 inches in diameter.

Most Spoons On Face

In 2009 Aaron Caissie from Canada was declared as the person with the Most Spoons on Face with 17. But he was eventually beaten by Dalibor Jablanovic from Serbia, with 31 spoons on his face; that certain record was tabbed in September 2013. Jablanovic remains unbeaten in this feat.

Longest Nose

A Turkish man named Mehmet Ozyurek has been confirmed as having the longest nose ever recorded on a living person. Born in 1949, Ozyurek’s smeller measured 3.5 inches long when it was last measured in March 2010 in Rome, Italy.

Most Concrete Blocks Broken While Holding A Raw Egg

It seems no one else will dare to overtake Germany’s Joe Alexander from the throne as someone with the “Most Concrete Blocks Broken While Holding a Raw Egg.” This Hamburg native smashed concrete blocks arranged in three single stacks of eight consecutively while holding a raw egg in the hand he used to break the blocks. After the blocks had been broken, the egg amazingly remained intact. This record was tallied by Guinness in November 2010 in celebration of Guinness World Records Day.

Most Snails On Face

That is a really silly achievement, but an achievement nonetheless! In 2009, Eleven-year-old Fin Kehler from Utah, USA had 43 slimy snails placed on his face for a total of 10 seconds. He broke the previous record of 36 in 2007.

Most Insured Hair

NFL football player Troy Polamalu has proven that hair is indeed a person’s crowning glory. Apart from football achievements, the stalwart from the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) is also famous for his voluminous, curly locks. His big hair enables him to be easily spotted on the field. In 2010, Polamalu’s hair was insured for $1 million with the insurance firm Lloyd’s of London by Procter and Gamble (P&G).

Polamalu’s hair measured three feet long at the time of the insurance; he did not cut it in deference to his Samoan ancestors. Presently he is the endorser of Head and Shoulders shampoo, one of P&G’s brands, and has appeared in five commercials for the product.

Longest Time Spent Buried Alive

In 2004, magician Zdenek Zahradka from the Czech Republic spent 10 days buried alive in his coffin — and survived. He beat the previous world record for being buried alive for four days.

However, Guinness no longer lists records for the longest time buried alive, and discourages people to set such a record. Needless to say, Zahradka’s feat was rejected by Guinness.

Tallest Man

At present, the tallest living man goes to Sultan Kosen from Ankara, Turkey. The part-time farmer was measured at 8 feet 3 inches and the measurement was conducted in February 2011. Kosen beat Xi Shun from China, who measured 7 feet 9 inches tall.

Apart from being the tallest living person, Kosen also holds the record of having the largest hands of a living person, with each hand measuring 11.22 inches from the wrist up to the tip of the middle finger.

The World’s Longest Legs

Svetlana Pakatrova from Russia has the longest legs in the world, according Guinness. The 6’5″ stunner is tall enough, but because her upper body has much more of a typical dimension like that of a normal-sized person, Pankatrova is not the tallest woman in the planet.

However, she has the longest pair of legs on earth, each measuring 132 centimeters (52 inches). Pankatrova also has large feet for a woman at size 13. She used to play women’s basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA, and is now a coach for the George Mason High girls’ basketball team. Pankratova also loves to wear high heels, adding to her sky scraping height.

The Most Nationalities in a Sauna

Maximare Hamm, an indoor and outdoor water park in Germany, once claimed the title of the “The Most Nationalities in Sauna,” with 91 people from different nations. The record was set in 2010 and broke the previous 1976 record.

However, it eventually lost out to Pocari Sweat in China, which crammed in 99 nationalities inside a sauna in Beijing. Pocari Sweat, a Japanese sports drink, held the event in the Chinese capital. The aim of this event is to promote Pocari Sweat’s ability to replenish the lost ions from sweating. The record still stands unchallenged, as of yet.

The Oldest Wing Walker

Thomas Lackey of the United Kingdom proves that you’re never too old to break a record on Guinness. Born on May 22, 1920, the 90-year-old daredevil sealed his legacy to become the oldest wing walker in 2010.

The World’ s Biggest Barbecue

Montevideo, Uruguay set the record of the “World’s Biggest Barbecue” in April 2008, in an event in which 12,000 kilograms (26,400 pounds) of beef were cooked. Mmmmmmmmm!!!

The World’s Longest Sausage

The Croatian town of Vinkovci once owned the record of having “The World’s Longest Sausage” in 2009. The sausage was measured 530 meters long, beating the previous record set by Romania with 392 meters-long sausage in 2008.

However, Romania reclaimed the title of having the “The World’s Longest Sausage” when their creation was measured 62.75 kilometers (38.99 miles) in December 2014. The record still stands unbeaten.

The Largest Gathering of People in Their Underpants

116 bold and almost-nude people braved the cold weather to reach the record of “The Largest Gathering of People in Underpants” at St. Pancras International rail station in London, England on November 13, 2008.

But that record was eventually broken by the USA. On September 24, 2011, 2,270 underwear-clad participants sprinted at the Utah Undie Run in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose for this event was to challenge the common perception that Utah is an “uptight” state (probably due to the fact that Utah is the home of the Mormon Church). USA’s record in this field is still unbroken.

The Tallest and the Tiniest Dogs in the World

In 2013, Giant George became the tallest living dog in the world. The Great Dane was measured at 43 inches tall. Another Great Dane, Zeus, was once the tallest dog (measuring 44 inches tall), but he died in September 2014.

The tiniest living canine in terms of height, on the other hand, is a female Chihuahua named Miracle Milly. She measures 3.8 inches tall and weighs barely a pound. She dethroned the previous smallest dog Boo Boo, another Chihuahua, who is 4 inches tall and weighs 2 pounds.

The World’s Smallest Cow

Swallow, an adult cow, was once named the smallest cow by Guinness in 2010. The bovine from Yorkshire, England was measured at 33 inches (83.82 centimeters) tall. Despite her size, Swallow has the capability to bear young and actually gave birth to 9 calves who have outgrown her. In this picture, Swallow’s bigger youngest calf stands next to her on the left.

But Swallow was eventually beaten by an even tinier cow from Kerala, India. Her name is Manikyam who measures only about 24 inches (61.5 centimeters tall), no bigger than an average-sized pet. Farmer and environmentalist Balakrishnan Nambukudy describes Manikyam as intelligent and considers her as more than a pet — she is part of his family. Guinness visited Nambukudy’s village and verified the record in 2015.
