Discover These Amazing, Strange, and Unusual Blue Animals

Planet Earth has always been full of mysteries, and every day, we come to know more of them. The new discoveries do not seem to end at any point. One such discovery has been of the different types of blue animals of the world. As much as this seems shocking, it is a reality that a vast population of animals is blue. Some of the most fascinating blue animals have been mentioned below.

Top Unusual Blue Animals

The Blue Whale

At the beginning of our list is the biggest animal on the planet which is the Blue Whale. By the name, you may get an idea about its color but this animal has other significant features as well. One of these whales weighs about 200 tons and extends up to 98 feet in length. Blue Whales are commonly found in the North Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and Indian Ocean as well.

This is actually quite an alarming statement because, at one point, the Blue Whales were present in all of the oceans until mass killings by whalers took place. As of 2018, Blue Whales are considered endangered animals. This is because only about 25,000 blue whales are left in the world. According to some research, Blue Whales have an average life span of about 73 years. Only a rare chunk of people get to see this awesome creature.

The Blue Jay

If we talk about the most beautiful bird, it would be the Blue Jay which is found in the majority of parts of the United States. Not all of them are naturally born in the US and some of them are migrants too. The Blue Jay has a length between 9 and 12 inches while the weight is about 100 grams per bird. The face of this bird is white while the rest of the body is in lavender-blue. Sometimes, the wings can be white, black, or sky blue.

As of now, there are 4 different types of Blue Jay birds that have been identified. These birds mainly feed on different types of seeds and nuts. However, they are known to be aggressive birds because they can raid the nests of other birds as well. Newly born Blue Jays stay with their parents for one to two months before flying away. It may seem very exciting to have Blue Jay as a pet bird because it is quite small and has an attractive design. However, in the US, keeping a Blue Jay is illegal because it is considered a wild bird.

The Blue Macaw

Many of us may have seen the Macaw parrots. They are one of the biggest species of parrots and are quite expensive too. However, a blue Macaw is even rarer, which adds more to its price as well. This bird is also known as hyacinth Macaw and is usually found in the South and Central parts of America. This bird has a completely blue color and may have slightly yellow borders on its eyes.

The special feature of this macaw is that it is longer than any other species of parrot as it is about 1 meter long. It can weigh up to 3.5kgs. Due to the high trade of this bird, it has been classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The Hyacinth Macaw is one of those birds which has a long lifespan of approximately 40 to 50 years. Keep in mind that these wild birds are playful but can create screeching sounds if you annoy them too much.

Morpho Butterfly

It would be such an aesthetically pleasing sight to see a Morpho Butterfly because of its vibrant color and design patterns. Morpho butterflies have a blue color mainly due to the nanostructures in the scales of the wings. The metallic blue color might appear to be changing depending upon the angle you are viewing it from. This is one reason why this particular form of butterfly may appear to be appearing and disappearing when it flies. The phenomenon of light and reflection causes this to happen.

Other than that, a fun fact about Morpho butterflies is that they are the largest species of butterflies as they can have a maximum wingspan of up to 8 inches. They are found in parts of Mexico as well as in the areas of Latin America. However, due to rapid deforestation and massive urbanization in these areas, much of the Morpho butterfly habitats have been lost. This is one reason why they are also endangered and reduced in numbers over the past few years.

Blue Poison Dart Frog

One of the bluest creatures on Earth is the Blue Poison Dart Frog. This is something that only a handful of people can see in their life because it is not found commonly in the cities, rather it is known as a rainforest creature. As a matter of fact, it is found in the northern settlements of Brazil. The scientific name of this frog is D. tinctorius “Azureus”. Although it may look appealing, it is a highly poisonous frog that can paralyze as well as kill the predator.

There are different types of species associated with this frog and have a unique black spot pattern on their skin as well. This frog grows about 3 to 4 cm in length with a total weight of about 8 grams. The major distinction between the male frogs and the female frogs is with the toes as the males have larger toes. The blue poison dart frogs spend most of their time awake during the day near water sources. However, they are aggressive and considered as one of the deadliest animals on earth

Blue Tang

If you have watched the film “Finding Nemo”, you might already be aware of the Blue Tang fish as well. Many people have the Blue Tang fish kept at home as well in the aquariums. The scientific name of this fish is Paracanthurus hepatus. Blue tang fishes have pointed snouts and small scales with their bodies depicting the shape of a pancake. The shiny blue color makes them quite distinct from the other types of fish. They “shoo-away” the predators by using the spin which fits into their groove. In commercial markets, the Blue Tang fish is used as bait for the larger fish.

The Blue Tangs can grow up to 39cm at one time. A fun fact about the Blue Tangs is that they aren’t always blue. They have a bright yellow color at first which can then change over time to blue. However, some parts of their bodies such as minor spots still remain yellow. An adult blue tang can weigh up to 600 grams. Mostly, these fish graze on algae and other small matter as well. On a personal note, the Blue Tangs are an animal that should be kept by every fish lover for their vibrant color and naturally pleasing design properties as well.

The best part? This is one of the few animals which isn’t much of concern to animal conservation authorities. This is because the Blue Tangs are high in number. However, the alarming rise in the commercial use of Blue Tang can pose certain threats in the future.

Conclusion

The different types of blue animals are surely a magnificent yet rare sight to see. Some of these animals are small while the others are big. The vibrant blue color is quite pleasing and comforting as well. However, one aspect common among most blue animals mentioned above is that they are endangered. This means that in the near future, there is a possible chance that many blue animals might go extinct. The concerned organizations should devise some policies to ensure that these endangered animals are saved.
