How the Express Entry Application To Canada Works

As of January 1, 2015, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) implemented a new administration system for migration programs for Economy Class, called “Express Entry.” “Express Entry” is the system that will manage migration to Canada in several categories: Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, candidates who have a Provincial Nomination Certificate (except Quebec) Federal Skilled Trades Program,  and for those candidates who have a Job Offer authorized by the Canadian Department of Employment through a favorable opinion on the impact of foreign professionals in the local market (LMIA). While in Canada working, you should also seek help from a Hamilton injury lawyer. You should not try to do this on your own either.

Meeting the Criteria

The information here was written for professionals who meet the criteria to immigrate to Canada as Federal Skilled Workers (FSW). If you go through an immigration lawyer the Express Entry route can be obtained without having the criteria of 600 additional points. Before applying as an independent professional through Express Entry, you must demonstrate that you have the minimum score (67 points) required by the program, which are accumulated through the following six criteria:

  1. Linguistic knowledge (French and English)
  2. Education
  3. Experience
  4. Age
  5. Job Offer in Canada
  6. Adaptability

Obtaining and Invitation

To receive an invitation through Express Entry, the following criteria will be taken into account:

  1. a) Basic human capital factors
  2. b) Factors of the spouse or partner accompanying the main applicant
  3. c) Skill transferability factors
  4. d) Factors related to a provincial proposal or a job offer authorized by the Canadian Department of Employment.

The skills transferability factors are as follows:

  • Level of education
  • Foreign work experience
  • Certification of the Academic Credential in a technical area

Scoring System

The Express Entry application will be made through a scoring system under which the candidate must obtain the minimum required to be able to receive an invitation to emigrate to Canada: The maximum number of points that can be assigned by virtue of work experience in Canada is 10 points. Points for the Canadian work experience factor must be based on the number of years of full-time or part-time equivalent employment, taking into account the applicant and their accompanying spouse or domestic partner, by one or more employers from Canada. Full-time employment involves working at least 30 hours per week, which is mandatory. Points are also awarded for the highest level of education. Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for permanent residency by skilled workers. One important aspect of the process is the Express Entry fees that applicants must pay. There are two types of fees: the first is an application processing fee, which is currently set at $825 CAD per applicant, and the second is a right of permanent residence fee, which is $500 CAD per person. These fees are non-refundable and must be paid online using a credit card or debit card. It’s important to note that these fees are in addition to any fees associated with obtaining necessary documents, such as language tests and police certificates. Overall, while the fees for the Express Entry process can be significant, they are an important investment for those hoping to make Canada their new home.

The Express Entry application process can be complex and that is one of the main reasons why you should involve an experienced immigration lawyer. It is in your best interest to do so.
