How to Keep Your Kids Healthy During a Pandemic

Though we are in uncertain times, it is still your duty as a parent to ensure that your children are as healthy as can be. From exercise to making sure they get the right diet, there is plenty that can be done.

Exercise as You Can

If you have a secure garden, make sure your children go outside for a good portion of the day. They need to be getting the exercise they usually would at school, and running around outside is the best way for them to do so. If the weather is particularly good, try to arrange your lessons outside so your children can get as much fresh air as possible. It will do them no good to be cooped up inside all day.

You also need to make sure that they are heading out for exercise outside your home. Try to go for a short walk together every day if you can. You always need to make sure that you are sticking to social distancing policies, though that may be difficult if you have smaller children who may not necessarily understand what is happening in the world. Try to speak to them about it as best as you can, and enjoy your time outside.

Ensure They are Getting the Best Diet

Though you may only be going to the shops once a week, you should still be trying to get as balanced a diet as possible. Now could be the perfect time to try out some of the recipes that you have always wanted to use. You really can’t go wrong with simple nutritious meals, but make sure you have some favourites on-hand to give your children too.

Speak to Them

It isn’t enough to look after your family’s physical well-being; you need to make sure that they are cared for mentally too. This is a scary time for adults, so we need to make sure that our children are not also feeling the strain.

Take the time to speak to your children, especially if they seem withdrawn. They have gone from being able to see friends every day to only seeing their family, and FaceTime might not be enough for them. Try to set up an open line of communication, so you know whether to talk to each other openly or pull back if needed. This will help the mental health of all and will also benefit the mood within your home.
