Interesting Facts About Tennessee

When you thank of Tennessee you might think of country music and Elvis.  There are many other interesting facts to the state – read on!

TSU is the only state-funded historically black university in Tennessee.

The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864.  It was a significant setback for the Confederate army.  Despite numerous assaults, the Confederate army was unable to break through and stop the Union army from a successful retreat.

The park commemorates the historical activities of famous frontiersman David Crockett in the local area.

Fort Loudoun was a British settlement that was the goal to gain support from the Cherokee at the start of the seven years war that was largely fought between France and Britain.

The bridge is lit up by over 200 sodium vapor lights.  It was first lit on 1986 after a major fund raising campaign.  Its interesting to note that the lights have to be toggled off when vessels pass due to the glare.
