Some of these are so unusual that a person may have infinite questions with no answers to them. These unexplained artifacts are truly astonishing which is why they attract people from all over the world as well. Here are a few of the top unusual and strange artifacts of the world.

Strange and Unexplained Artifacts of the World

There are different types of artifacts in the world that leave the viewers clueless about their existence. Many may have questions but little known are the answers.

The Codex Gigas

The Codex Gigas is a book but it is not even close to a regular book. It is known as the devil’s bible or the world’s most evil book as well. This book is considered to be written down in the early 13th century by the  Benedictine monastery of Podlažice. What’s odd about this book is that it has a large-sized portrait of Satan. The Codex Gigas comprises 620 pages and is currently located at the National Library of Sweden.

Many have myths regarding the creation of the book. One of the most famous myths is that the Codex Gigas was written by a monk who promised to complete the bible in one night or to face the punishment of death. However, since this was not even close to possible, legend says that the devil helped the monk in writing this book which is why the devil’s portrait is also there. There is no possible explanation that such a large manuscript could have been written in one night. The content of this book has always been a mystery as well.

The Baghdad Battery

While most of us believe that wires and electricity have been an outcome of modern technology, the unusual artifact named The Baghdad Battery questions this claim. In 1938, Wilhelm Konig, the director of the National Museum of Iraq discovered a clay pot but this wasn’t any regular clay pot. The odd thing about this clay pot was that there was an iron rod inside it along with a copper sheath, wires, and even some solution with acid in it. The above image shows the clay pot, tube of copper, and rod of iron. The Baghdad battery was found near Ctesiphon, which is considered to be the capital of the ancient empires of Parthian and Sasanian.

It is believed that this unique artifact belonged from the era of 150 BC to 650 AD. Being such an ancient time, many archeologists are unable to figure out why the Baghdad Battery was created. It shows that there was some form of electrotherapy or use of electricity in ancient times as well. However, many archeologists have concluded that this isn’t some sort of electro-process; rather, it could be something associated with medicine or magic. A few guess that this could be related to different types of religious practices as well.

The Bog Bodies

Most of us are aware of the fact that humans used to be preserved in ancient civilizations in the form of mummies. However, the concept of a bog body is a bit different. A bog body is defined as a human cadaver that is mummified in a peat bog. The most unusual fact about these bodies is that all of them have been found in peat and preserved. Some of these are perfectly preserved which raises the question as to how come this was possible in an era that was so behind in terms of technology and important resources.

Besides, archeologists have been surprised by the fact that the skin is always well preserved and there is a strong acidic composition in the peat box which has allowed for the preservation of hair, nails, and skin. The oldest bog body is of Koelbjerg Man who belongs from the era of 8000 BC. Up until 1986, more than 1800 bog bodies have been found and documented which indicates that there might be many more as well. An even more shocking discovery is that some bog bodies are said to be from the Second World War era, quite a recent one. The bog bodies can be seen at the Drents Museum in Assen.

Perfectly Preserved Dinosaur Embryo

Studies have shown that dinosaurs existed millions of years ago, as long as 60 to 80 million years ago. After that, they just went extinct. From that time till now, there have been massive disasters and unforeseen events in the world including catastrophes. What’s unusual is the fact that even after all of this, scientists have recently found a dinosaur egg that has a perfectly preserved dinosaur embryo that was ready to be hatched. This discovery was made in China in December 2021 and scientists have named this bird “Baby Yingliang ”.

Researchers believe that even with major catastrophes, this egg stayed in its perfect form because it would have been buried under a mudslide which protected it from any further damages or any kind of animal attacks. If the baby bird would have grown, it could be about 3 meters long. We really hope that dinosaurs don’t enter our world, once again.

The Antikythera Mechanism

The father of computer science, Charles Babbage, devised the world’s first digital computer between 1833 and 1871. However, digging deep into the history, we have found The Antikythera Mechanism, a form of a greek computer that was developed in ancient times. According to experts, this is said to be a type of analog computer which was used in astronomy and different types of eclipses behavior. Some believe that this may be used to track the cycle of athletic games. It was originally found from a ship’s wreckage in Antikythera in 1901. For this reason, it has got its name as well.

There are different types of gears in this mechanism as well along with inscriptions. Research has been carried out on The Antikythera mechanism to scan the image inside its fragments. Some archeologists believe that a part of this computer system may have been lost in the wreckage which could be used to calculate the positions of classical planets. This artifact is said to have belonged from the era of 87 BC. Currently, it is located at the National Archeological Museum in Athens.

A Sri Lankan Meteorite

The popular belief about the existence of life on the planet is considered to be with the big bang theory. However, a meteor that fell in Sri Lanka in 2012 has challenged this theory. This meteorite was named Polonnaruwa. Chandra Wickramasinghe and his team soon discovered this meteorite and began research.

When this meteorite was found in Sri Lanka, there were fossilized forms of algae and other associated fungi on it which indicate a sign of life. With this statement, a hypothesis has been created that life on earth came because of such a meteor shower after which evolution took place.

While it may seem like an interesting hypothesis, it has confused many. It also indicates that there can be life in planets and galaxies other than Earth and The Milky Way. While scientists are already researching life on other planets, the Sri Lankan meteorite is a breakthrough and has helped in progressing this research.

Several forms of criticism have also been raised to this theory of a meteorite.
