The Short Music Career of Jon & Robin and the In-Crowd

Jon & Robin and the In-Crowd

Jon & Robin was an American husband and wife musical duo hailing from Dallas, Texas.  Jon Abdnor Jr. and his wife Javonne (Robin) Braga recorded under Abnak Records, owned by Jon’s father.  They scored their hit single “Do It Again A Little Bit Slower” in 1967.  When the duo parted ways, Jon went on with being with the In-Crowd as well as establishing himself as a solo performer.  With their short-lived career, they go down in history as one of the “one-hit wonder” acts.

The Turbulent History of Jon & Robin and The In-Crowd

Jon Abdnor Jr. and Javonne (Robin) Braga were a 60s music-era American pop music duo collectively known as Jon & Robin. The pair experienced a speck of popularity in the 1960s when they released “Do it Again a Little Bit Slower.” It was recorded on Abnak Records, which was owned by Abdnor’s father. Penned by Wayne Carson Thompson (famed by The Box Top’s hit, “The Letter”), “Do it Again a Little Bit Slower” peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967. But after that hit, the duo parted ways, and Jon restarted his career with the In-Crowd. Later in 1967, Jon and the In-Crowd recorded “Dr. Jon (The Medicine Man)” which made no significant impression on the national charts. However, the song was a regional hit and became a classic favorite in Texas. In 1969, Abdnor began his career as a solo artist and released an album.

Most of the group’s songs were written by Wayne Carson Thompson, and they were usually backed by several Abnak artists, such as Bobby Patterson and the Five Americans, among others. In 2006, a compilation album was released by Sundazed Records, Do It Again, The Best of Jon & Robin.
