Introduction to Leblanc and Carr

Good friends Lenny LeBlanc and Pete Carr were billed as LeBlanc and Carr, best known their Top 40 hit single “Falling.” Atlantic Records created the duo as they saw LeBlanc’s great potential and paired him with the record producer and session musician Carr.  The duo made their only album together, 1978’s Midnight Light (which includes “Falling”), in which Carr served as both recording artist and producer/mixer. During their brief career together as a pair, LeBlanc and Carr went on tours with some of the big names in music, including Lynyrd Skynyrd.  Carr found that he was more satisfied with working “behind the scenes” – that is, more as a producer than as a recording artist, so he and LeBlanc separated professionally for good.  While Carr returned to studio sessions work, LeBlanc soldiered on in his solo career.  Since 1980, LeBlanc has been a born-again Christian, and his recent work centers around contemporary Christian music. 

Meet LeBlanc and Carr

The 70’s music-era pop/rock duo LeBlanc and Carr was composed of Lenny LeBlanc and Pete Carr. LeBlanc was born on June 17, 1951 in Leominster, Massachusetts while Carr was on April 22, 1950 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Little information has been gathered about LeBlanc and Carr because their history is somewhat obscure; LeBlanc and Carr formed in 1973 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Carr was a former member of Hourglass.

Throughout their career, they released only one album, Midnight Light, which featured three singles. In July 1977, their debut single, “Something about You” charted modestly on the Billboard Hot 100 at #48. LeBlanc and Carr came to prominence the following October with their second single “Falling.” Released on Big Tree imprint, the single peaked at #13 on the pop chart and crossed over to adult contemporary at #11. On June 1978, the duo issued their third and final single “Midnight Light.” It was a low-charting single, reaching #91 on Hot 100.

LeBlanc and Carr’s solo careers

After being a duo, LeBlanc and Carr went on their separate ways and released their own solo albums. In their later years, LeBlanc switched to playing Christian music. Carr, meanwhile, eventually found his calling in studio sessions work; he later worked as a studio musician, composer, producer and engineer, and worked with popular acts such as Rod Stewart and Simon and Garfunkel.
