The blue rectangle and text that used to accompany the domino were removed, and its colors were altered. In April 2019, it was announced that the company would be acquired by MTY Food Group for $190 million, further solidifying its position in the industry. 

They introduced ordering and picking up an already cooked pizza; customers receive an uncooked pizza for taking home and baking it themselves. Their popularity is a new concept of “take and bake” services. They emphasize the freshness of ingredients, and their stores don’t have freezers to store the dough.  They started making fresh dough and pure mozzarella cheese daily and hand-sliced veggies for the customers.

7. Sbarro

Sbarro started when Carmela and Gennaro ran an Italian Salumeria. A renowned American pizzeria chain – known for its delicious New York-style pizza sold by the slice and a range of other Italian-American cuisines. The company has gained recognition for its international sales, ranking 15th among U.S.-based quick-serve and fast-casual companies in foreign sales, as reported by QSR Magazine in 2011. In addition, Entrepreneur magazine rated Sbarro as the #1 Quick Service Restaurant in the Italian segment in 2008, further attesting to its popularity and success in the industry. (6)

Their pizzas were so famous and delicious that they made another chain to focus only on this pizza. Their marketing technique was powerful and ideal; they opened their new chain in malls to avoid direct competition with big brands of the pizza industry.

8. Marco’s Pizza

Marco’s Pizza has been operating since 1978, and it has more than 44 locations outside the USA. They recently got the Pizza Chain of the Year award in the Harris Poll Equi Survey. Italian immigrant Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco is the only major American pizza chain started by a native Italian. Marco’s Pizza separates itself by remaining authentic to Italian-style pizza. The restaurant industry guru, Jack Butorac, took over the chain in 2004 with 123 locations and grew it into the national chain. The chain’s primary purpose is to serve fresh ingredients rather than frozen and fully packed bulk packages.

The menu at Marco’s Pizza is designed to cater to different dining preferences, with options for delivery, take-out, dine-in, and catering. The menu features a variety of items, including wings, pizza, subs, salads, CinnaSquares, pizza bowls, co-branded Ghirardelli brownies, and CheezyBread.

Notably, Marco’s Pizza has also won recognition for its specialty pizzas, such as the White Cheezy pizza, which emerged as the winner of a gourmet competition in California. By 2001, with 363 restaurants in operation, Cicis expanded its buffet offerings and initiated restaurant remodeling efforts. Just four years later, they had surpassed 500 locations and earned the distinction of being the fastest-growing pizza chain in the United States. (8)

Cicis Pizza is the biggest pizza chain based on the buffet, founded in 1985. Their buffet concept is that a customer can eat the pizza from the buffet at a low price. And amazingly, there are 15 types of pizzas on the buffet menu to attract kids and adults. Joe Croce and Mike Cole created this concept to attract more families to provide them with different and tasty pizzas like macaroni and cheese pizza with wings as the topping.
