Motoring always goes through changes as the years go by due to technological developments, global issues and consumer trends, but the next decade or so could be transformative in the automotive industry with many huge changes likely to happen over the coming years. Here are a few of the main changes that you can expect in the next 10 years or so.
Electric Car Prevalence
Electric cars were a rare sight on UK roads not too long ago but they are gradually becoming more mainstream and this will only increase in the coming years as more and more motorists look to make the switch. This is for many reasons, including environmental benefits, cost benefits, more availability and choice, an improving infrastructure and pressure from the government ahead of the 2035 ban on the sale of petrol and electric.
Autonomous Driving
Automobiles are becoming increasingly autonomous each year and this will only continue towards fully-autonomous driving (this is still a way off for a few reasons). It was announced in August that motorists could be allowed to let their cars drive themselves on motorways with automated technology in 2021 which will be a big step forward. Even with this tech, motorists still need to be cautious and protect themselves with GAP insurance which could save them a fortune.
Improved In-Car Tech
In-car technology has taken many big strides in recent years and this will only continue as the technology improves. It is likely that smart voice assistants that are used in the home will start to appear in cars with voice-activated features along with further implementation of IoT, which would allow for fully autonomous parking functionality and other impressive features.
Augmented Reality
Augmented reality is a type of technology that is gradually finding uses in all kinds of different areas of life. In terms of motoring, Heads-Up Displays (HUDs) where key information is projected onto the windshield will become commonplace which will allow people to easily keep their eye on key information without taking their eyes off the road – this should greatly reduce accidents with around 400,000 accidents occurring each year due to people texting on their phones.
These are just a few of the major changes that you can expect to see in driving in the next 10 years or so. The electric car revolution, strides towards driverless motoring and various technological trends mean that there will be some amazing changes in the coming years and this could have a big impact on both driving and people’s entire lives.
