What to Expect from the FUE Hair Transplant

During an FUE hair transplant procedure,  individual hair follicles are removed from the donor area to be implanted in the recipient area where hair growth has stopped. With this procedure, growing hair will seem thick, natural, and healthy. The reason why the FUE procedure was created was to replace the FUT hair transplant method. The FUT method involves removing a piece of skin tissue that includes hair follicles. Then, hair follicles are taken from the tissue and are implanted in the balding areas. With this procedure, patients require stitches and are left with huge scars. Therefore, FUE method was improved and has gained great popularity ever since. The hair transplant market in many countries actually revolves around the FUE method. For instance, hair transplant in Turkey is highly based on the FUE technique.

A good candidate for an FUE hair transplant is someone who experiences thinning hair or balding but still has enough hair around to extract healthy hair follicles. If you do not have enough hair, you might not be eligible for an FUE hair transplant.

How Does an FUE Hair Transplant Take Place?

The three-phase cycle of hair development and renewal shortens as you age. This continues until hair follicles no longer regrow hairs. The FUE method is used to restore hair growth in the areas where the three-phase cycle is damaged. Hair loss is unique to each individual. Some people begin to bald in their twenties, while others bald much later in life. Therefore, the procedure to restore hair growth must be unique to each person as well. FUE hair transplants restore hair by replacing old follicles with fresh follicles that are capable of producing hair. Following the transplant, the follicles will be fed by blood vessels and will begin to develop hair in the region where there was previously balding or thinning.

What to Expect After an FUE Hair Transplant

Since it is not as harsh as the FUT method, recovery from FUE surgery is rather quick. However, you might experience some discomfort or swelling after the surgery. But these will disappear in a few days. What you need to do is follow your doctor’s instructions. Here are some typical instructions doctors give to people who undergo the FUE surgery:

  • Do not wash your hair for at least 3 days after the surgery.
  • Do not exercise heavily or go to work for a few days to heal.
  • Do not comb your hair for the first few weeks, so you do not damage the newly implanted hair follicles.
  • Do not cover your head with hats or any kind of clothing to prevent sweating and pressure.

After the FUE hair transplant surgery, you will experience some hair falling out. This is perfectly normal and is a part of the healing process, so you do not need to worry. Your new hair growth will typically show itself after the first 3 months. However, exact results will be noticeable within the first year post-surgery. From 10 to 80 percent of the hair regrows after the FUE hair transplant operation. The FUE hair transplant is a very effective operation. The results generally last life-long, unless you damage the transplanted hair follicles.
