The Area of Operation
You need to understand your area of operation. Trolleybuses run on fixed electric wires that charge the vehicle. The roads or streets that they will pass are fixed. They are not as flexible as diesel busses since they have to pass through a fixed route. This route must be kept clear of any obstacles always to ensure smooth rides from one location to another. If in case there is a repair taking place in one of the routes, then you have to make arrangements to have an alternative since you have to suspend that route for the period it will be under repair.
Cannot Overtake Each Other
Since they traverse on fixed routes, trolleybuses are more or less like trains, only that they cover small distances. These vehicles cannot overtake one another. The operators have to time them correctly to ensure that only one trolley bus is heading in a particular direction at any one time. You cannot have two of them coming in opposite directions, but you can have more than two going in the same direction.
Trolleybuses require overhead cables. These cables are not only a little complicated to set up, but are also considered an ugly sight especially in busy cities and municipalities. Trolley Buses are Cheaper than Hybrid and Diesel
Much as the hybrid and diesel buses are flexible and can change routes easily, they are a bit more expensive to run than trolleybuses. Diesel buses are also lead contributors of pollution in cities. Even though trolleybuses run on fixed lines in only one direction, they are much more convenient and easier to operate if you have a good management system. They also ease traffic as they do not have to crisscross the streets like the free hybrid and diesel buses. They only move on fixed lines at definite times.
