Where Would The Sorting Hat ACTUALLY Place You?

When inspiration strikes, grab a barf bag!

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was sitting on an airplane when inspiration struck. Since she didn’t have a notebook handy, she grabbed an airplane vomit bag and began writing.

It’s a good thing Rowling listened to the ideas that were flowing in her mind. When she was all done, in front of her lay one of the most important parts of the Harry Potter series, the names of all 4 Hogwarts Houses.

It’s astonishing to imagine the humble beginnings of each of the Hogwarts house traits. Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin, might not exist if it wasn’t for Rowling’s relentless determination to put her idea on paper.

However, even though the Hogwarts houses are a major part of the Harry Potter world, they’re often the most misunderstood. Rather than seeing the full picture of what it means to belong to a certain house, fans wind up stuck seeing the houses as one dimensional.

Do you know the truth about where the Sorting hat would place you? Read on to learn everything you don’t know, but should, about the Hogwarts houses.

What It Takes to Be a Gryffindor

The Hogwarts house traits of Gryffindor are honor, bravery, and courage. The mascot for the Gryffindor’s household is a lion, and the colors are gold and scarlet that look great with harry potter jewelry

Honorable Traits

Since Gryffindor is the house of the brave, it makes sense that Harry Potter wound up there. If you see yourself as a courageous person, this could be the house for you.

Oftentimes, individuals who have had to overcome trials in their lives, feel they most align with the Gryffindor house. The Harry Potter books teach the lesson of how crucial it is to be courageous, even when things get tough.

Less Attractive Gryffindor Traits

While people like to imagine Gryffindor as the perfect heroes, without any flaws, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Gryffindor’s are infamous for being hard-headed, and operating in life with a one-track mind.

They’re also argumentative, hard to persuade, and can be a pain in the butt to work with at times. Since their approach tends to be a “my way or the highway” style, it can be hard to collaborate with Gryffindor’s for any type of project.

Hufflepuff Hogwarts House Traits

In the final Harry Potter book, it was the Hufflepuffs who stayed to fight in the battle. They didn’t stay because they wanted to look good, or get points, they stayed simply because it was the right thing to do.

Having a Hufflepuff in your corner can be one of the most empowering friendships of your life. If you’re the type of friend who stays and fights until the bitter end, you might be a humble, but loyal, Hufflepuff.

True Courage

Since a Hufflepuff isn’t concerned with fame or glory, they can be true heroes in the game of life. Another fun trait Hufflepuff’s carry is that they’re not afraid to deal with problems. If there’s a friend in trouble who needs them, a Hufflepuff doesn’t hesitate to head towards the trouble to rescue them.

Not Street Smart

Unfortunately, since Hufflepuffs don’t hesitate to help a friend in need, they often end up helping the wrong people. You see, in a Hufflepuff’s world, it’s natural to be intensely loyal and loving to your friends. Many Hufflepuff’s fall into the trap of believing that everyone is loyal and kind as well.

Have you found yourself giving more than your receiving in your relationships? Does it seem like you’re always there to help, but when you need help, no one’s around? If so, you might be a Hufflepuff.

Real Ravenclaw Traits

If you’re typically the smartest person in the room, you might be a Ravenclaw. The password to enter the Ravenclaw common room is an intricate riddle.

The riddle’s so tricky that none of the other houses can solve it, but even the youngest Ravenclaws can. It’s clear to see that it takes brains to be a Ravenclaw, no matter how young or old you are.

Clever and Studious

While some Ravenclaws are natural-born geniuses, others have to work hard to achieve academic success. It’s not uncommon for a Ravenclaw’s personal life to involve finding ways to constantly improve themselves. If you love a good challenge and are always striving to be the best, then you might have the heart of the house of Ravenclaw.

Overly Critical

Since Ravenclaws are constantly surrounded by intellectual competition, they tend to be too hard on themselves at times. The inner dialogue inside a Ravenclaw’s mind is overly critical, and sometimes cruel.

As a result, others might see Ravenclaws as judgemental. However, keep in mind that a Ravenclaw judges themself just as harshly, if not worse, than those around them.

Super Sly Slytherins

If there’s an emergency, you’ll want a Slytherin to be at your side. Slytherins are particularly good at keeping a cool head, even in the midst of a crisis.

A Slytherin has a unique ability to stop and assess the situation to come up with the best solution possible. Since they’re creative problem solvers, even the strangest of challenges can be overcome by a Slytherin.

Accidentally Evil

Slytherins tend to get a bad rap for being evil, thanks to characters like Draco Malfoy. However, oftentimes Slytherins are good people, who don’t know the power of their strength or determination.

Manipulative Determination

When a Slytherin sets their mind to something, there’s no changing it. They will lie, cheat, and twist reality, just to have things work out in their favor.

Slytherins are naturally manipulative and left unchecked, can become monsters, like Voldermort. However, if used correctly, these manipulative traits can help a Slytherin thrive. Many Slytherins are also charming and great at reading people.
