Introduction
One of the numerous “one hit wonder” groups, The Joe Jeffrey Group fleetingly surfaced in the 60s music scene. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, this pop/soul-oriented band, led by founder and singer Joe Stafford, had a hit with the catchy oldies music classic “My Pledge Of Love,” released under Wand Records. Subsequent singles like “The Train”, “Chance Of Loving You” and others failed to make an impression on the charts. The group soon disbanded.
Music career
Joe Jeffrey Group is a now-defunct R&B group from Cleveland Ohio, led Joe Jeffrey (born Joseph Stafford Jr. in Cleveland, Ohio). Joe Jeffrey was the lead vocalist and guitarist, and the lineup also consisted of bassist Al Russ, percussionist Charles Perry and drummer Ron Browning.
Their single, “My Pledge of Love,” peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, #13 the US Cashbox Top 100, and #6 on the Canadian national chart.
The group also released their own take of The White Plains’ “My Babes Loves Lovin'”. Both versions charted at the same time, with the White Plains version becoming a bigger hit (theirs charted at #115).
After the group, Joe Jeffrey performed as a one-man band in the greater Cleveland area, and one of the songs on his repertoire was, of course, “My Pledge of Love.”
