Thrust tapered roller bearing performance characteristics, design and installation

Thrust tapered roller bearings

Axial tapered roller bearings can form a very compact bearing arrangement in the axial direction, which can withstand heavy axial loads, is insensitive to shock loads, and has good rigidity. Screw-in bearings constitute specially designed one-way tapered roller thrust bearings and are full of rollers.

Thrust tapered roller bearing performance characteristics

This bearing is used in rolling mill screw-on bearing arrangements. Thrust tapered roller bearings have a logarithmic contact profile between the raceways and the rollers, ensuring optimal stress distribution in the bearing, thereby extending bearing life.

Thrust tapered roller bearing structure

Since the rolling elements in the thrust tapered roller bearing are tapered rollers, structurally, since the rolling busbar and the raceway busbar of the washer meet at a certain point on the axis of the bearing, the rolling surface can form pure rolling and limit speed. higher than thrust cylindrical roller bearings.

Due to the small production volume of thrust tapered roller bearings, the models produced by various factories are mostly non-standard external dimensions, and the series of standard external dimensions are produced in fewer varieties, so there is no national standard for the external dimensions of such bearings.

Thrust tapered roller bearing design and installation

Axial Tapered Roller Bearings with Cages are of a split design so that the two washers and the roller and cage thrust assemblies can be easily installed separately.

Full Roller Roller Bearings are held together by special locating parts, and to simplify operation, the washers have threaded holes for lifting bolts. See the introduction below:

  1. Small one-way thrust tapered roller bearings are almost exclusively used in steering knuckle bearing arrangements for commercial vehicles. This bearing has a full complement of rollers and is secured with a sheet steel cover. Most of these bearings are fitted with wear and oil resistant nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) friction seals. These bearings are lubricated for life with multipurpose grease and require no maintenance. There are several designs, the only difference being the design of the bearing housing races and the bearing housing.

Larger size one-way bearing washers are made differently; some bearing washers are coaxial with the exact same size as the housing race, while others are designed differently.

Washers with the same size coaxial and housing races have a tapered raceway and a locating rib. Bearings of this design are often used in applications that are subject to large axial loads, such as drilling equipment turntables or crane hooks. This bearing has a cage and is positioned by two washers.

Other bearing designs have shaft washers with tapered raceways and locating ribs, while the housing races are flat (flat). Therefore, a bearing of this design can accept a slight eccentricity of the shaft relative to the bearing housing bore without adversely affecting bearing performance. Except for a few sizes with full rollers, these bearings have cages that are concentric with the rollers.

  1. Two-way thrust tapered roller bearings are mainly used together with multi-row cylindrical roller bearings in rolling mills. This type of bearing with a flat shaft washer is preferred because it is able to accommodate slight eccentricities of the shaft relative to the bearing housing bore, as well as slight variations in radial internal clearance used with radial bearings. A spacer sleeve is arranged between the two bearing housing races. The spacer sleeves are sized so that the roll bearing housing screws can be fully tightened and the bearings do not require special springs for adjustment.

Double-way tapered roller thrust bearing with tapered raceways on shaft and housing races. Generally have a higher axial load carrying capacity than bearings with flat shaft races, and can radially locate the shaft to a certain extent. If the load carrying capacity of this bearing is insufficient considering the required service life, double row tapered roller bearings of the TDIS design with a large contact angle can be used, see “Double row tapered roller bearings”.

Since bidirectional thrust tapered roller bearings are usually installed with a loose fit on the roll journal and roll bearing housing, most bearing races have one or two locating grooves. This makes it possible to prevent the shaft retainer from turning on the shaft using a key embedded in the locating groove or similar.

  1. This type of thrust tapered roller bearing must be able to withstand extreme axial loads and allow the angular displacement of the threaded shaft relative to the support. Therefore, such bearings are usually full complement type, with large diameter and extra long rollers. To accommodate misalignment of the roll housing without adversely affecting bearing performance, this bearing has a spherical race. The race may be a shaft race or a bearing housing race.

In bearings with a spherical shaft race above the roller set between the spherical race and the corresponding concave spherical threaded shaft or pressure plate, the necessary misalignment occurs. LYTBZ can also supply the above pressure baffles.

When the bearing housing race is spherical, the centering offset is borne by the roller set between the bearing housing race and the pressure baffle. Pressure baffles for such bearings are usually supplied with the bearing.
