A Short History of Cricket in Different Parts of the World

Cricket is England’s national summer sport, and it is now famous all over the world, especially in Australia, India, Pakistan, the West Indies, and the United Kingdom. fantasy cricket game is an online bat-and-ball sport in which two teams of 11 players compete against each other. The pitch is a rectangular space in the middle of the field that measures 22 yards (20.12 meters) by 10 feet (3.04 meters). At either end of the pitch, two sets of three sticks, known as wickets, are placed in the dirt. Bails are horizontal bits that run over the top of each door.

The teams alternate batting and bowling (pitching) turns; each turn is referred to as an “inning” (always plural). Depending on the match’s predetermined length, each team has one or two innings to score the most runs. The bowlers attempt to crack (hit) the wicket with the ball with a straight arm, causing the bails to fall. The batsman can be dismissed or forced out in a variety of respects. A bowler bowls six balls to one wicket (completing an “over”), then a different player from his side bowls six balls to the opposite wicket (ending another “over”). The batting team defends their pitch.

Cricket is thought to have originated in the 13th century as a game in which country boys bowled at a tree stump or a sheep pen’s hurdle entrance. The gate was made up of two uprights and a crossbar that rested on the slotted tops; the crossbar was known as bail, and the whole gate was known as a wicket. Since the bail could be dislodged as the door was hit, it was preferred over the stump, which later became the term for the hurdle uprights. The wicket size, which received the third stump in the 1770s, varies between manuscripts, but by 1706 the pitch—the field between the wickets—was 22 yards long.

In the Beginning

The first mention of an 11-a-side contest, contested for a stake of 50 guineas in Sussex, dates from 1697. Dartford hosted the first known inter-county match in 1709 likely, a code of laws (rules) for the conduct of the game existed at this period, but the earliest known edition of those rules is dated 1744. During the early 18th century, cricket seems to have been confined to the southern counties of England. Still, its popularity expanded and gradually spread to London, especially to the Artillery Ground, Finsbury, which hosted a famous match between Kent and All-England in 1744. At games, heavy gambling and disorderly crowds were popular.

Before the emergence of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in London, the Hambledon above Club, which played on Broadhalfpenny Down in Hampshire, was the foremost cricket power in the second half of the 18th century. The MCC was established in 1787 by a cricket club that played at White Conduit Fields. In 1787, the club transferred to Lord’s Cricket Ground in St. Marylebone borough and became the MCC, which issued its first updated code of laws the following year. Lord’s has had three locations in its existence, each named for its founder, Thomas Lord. Lord’s became the global cricket home after moving to its present location in St. John’s Wood in 1814.
