Easy Ways to Stay in Shape While on Vacation

When you’re on vacation, the last thing you might want to do is exercise. After all, it’s a chance to take a break from your regular life, right? However, your body doesn’t take any breaks when it comes to the delicious food and sumptuous calories you’ll take in each day. Plus, you’ll never regret prioritizing your health at all times. With that understanding, consider some of the easiest ways to stay in shape while you’re on vacation.

1. Keep a food journal

It’s not uncommon for people to mindlessly eat during a regular workweek. Then, when many people go on vacation, all bets are off of the table. No dessert or buffet bar is left unturned. This can lead to some real consequences and an unbelievable amount of calorie consumption. In order to avoid this travesty, keep a food journal. Even if you just keep track of it all on your phone, write down everything you put in your mouth on that day. Once you’re able to see how much you’ve consumed, you’ll get a better understanding of how much you need to slow down or practice eating in moderation.

2. Designate time for exercise

If you don’t plan for it, you’re not going to get it done. This is a fact for anything you do in life. This is especially true for tasks you don’t want to do. If you’re not enthusiastic about working out, that’s okay. However, you still need to prioritize it in order for you to get the job done. Many people tend to see more success when they make their workout the first item on their to-do list for the entire day. This way, you can get it out of the way. It’s not looming over your head for the whole day.

3. Exercise in your hotel room

If the hotel doesn’t have a gym, you never want that to be the reason why you don’t squeeze in your workouts. This is why it’s great to travel with workout gear for your trip. It’s easy to squeeze a jump rope, some ankle weights and a few resistance bands in your suitcase.

4. Take the long route

It’s an excellent idea to take the long route when you have to take the stairs, walk to the dining hall or travel to your rental car. When you park further away and have to walk further, you’ll be able to get extra steps in. Wear a pedometer to track your steps throughout the day. It’s okay to remember you’re on vacation to relax. However, your daily steps do count for a lot. If you know that you’re scheduled to take a call that will last for an hour, consider finding a hallway that you can pace as you’re on the call.

Once you incorporate these tips into your daily life, it’ll be easier to incorporate them into your routine while you’re on vacation. As you begin to prioritize your health in this manner, you’ll begin to see results. There’s nothing more addicting than seeing results when you’re on a health journey. As you adopt those.
