What is “The Flintstones”?
The Flintstones is an animated 1960s television sitcom that was broadcast on ABC. It was created and produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, who are also the producers of many other famous television shows such as Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and Tom and Jerry. The Flintstones consists of six seasons and 166 episodes. It aired from September 30, 1960, to April 1, 1966.
The Flintstones is a show about a caveman, named Fred Flintstone, who lives in a Stone Age town called Bedrock, and his life and the many adventures he encounters with his family and friends. Although Fred is usually the star of the show, the other main characters in The Flintstones include Fred Flintstone’s family and their best friends the Rubbles family. The Flintstone family includes Fred, Wilma, Pebbles, and their two pets Dino and Baby Puss. The Rubble family includes Barney, Betty, Bamm-Bamm, and their pet Hoppy. Fred Flintstone, the main character of the series, is a very kind father and husband to his family. However, he is very accident prone and is easily angered. Fred’s wife’s name is Wilma, and she is very intelligent, although she has a slight problem with spending too much money. Barney Rubble, is Fred Flintstone’s best friend and neighbor, and his wife Betty is Wilma’s best friend. There were a total of over hundred other characters that have also appeared on the series throughout the year.
Some interesting facts about the Flintstones
Although The Flintstones has been nominated for two awards, which include a Primetime Emmy Award in 1961 and a TV Land Award in 2006, it has never won an award. The Flintstones was however, the first animated TV series to ever be nominated for an Outstanding Comedy Series Primetime Emmy Award, although it did not win. In 2013, the show was ranked as the second Greatest TV Cartoon of All Time next to The Simpsons.
The Flintstones’ impact on the entertainment industry and culture
The Flintstones has actually had quite a few revivals, spin-offs, sequels, and films made about it. This includes twelve television series, two theatrical animated features, eleven television specials, five television movies, and two live-action films. There has also been many videogames and comic books made that are based onThe Flintstones. Warner Bros. Animation and WWE Studios announced in 2013 that they are working on a new film about The Flintstones that should be released in 2015. There has also been more than six theme parks made around the U.S. and in Canada that are based on The Flintstones series, two of which are still existent. Amusement Parks in Bedrock City in Custer, South Dakota and in Valle, Arizona are still open and operational today.
The Flintstones has been named one of the greatest animated series of all time, for good reason. When it first came out, and even years after, The Flintstones has continued to make thousands of children and adults all around the world laugh and has brought them much joy and happiness throughout the years. In fact, The Flintstones was, and always will be, one of the favorite shows among many.
