The 8 Best Beaches in Hawaii

Are you planning a trip to Hawaii? Hawaii is known for many things including fresh seafood, a beautiful culture, friendly people and great weather. However, the one thing everyone comes to Hawaii for is the fantastic beaches. For most people, a holiday in Hawaii isn’t complete if they haven’t had the opportunity to run along a sandy beach and dip their toes in the ocean. Thankfully, there are many Hawaii beaches to choose from. Below, we share some of the top beaches to consider for your next holiday to Hawaii.

Waikiki Beach, Oahu

This is easily one of the best beaches in Hawaii. In fact, holiday seekers have been flocking this beach since the early 1900s. The calm waters and long stretch of golden beach draw crowds throughout the year. Many luxury hotels make the backdrop to the beach. It’s the perfect location to mingle with the locals and experience the best that Hawaii has to offer.

Polihale State Park, Kauai

It will take a little more effort to get to Polihale State Park but it is worth all the time and energy you put into it. You will need a four-wheel drive to navigate the sand dunes and bumpy road leading to the beach. The 17-mile stretch of beach on Kauai’s wester shore is easily one of Hawaii most beautiful beaches. From the Napali cliffs to Niihau (the forbidden island), the beach offers fantastic views. It is the perfect place to get away from the crowds of tourists and enjoy the best of untouched Hawaiian landscapes.

Ko Olina Beach, Oahu

If you’re looking for a place for family fun, head down to Ko Olina Beach on Oahu. The beautiful Hawaiian beach is located on the western side of Oahu. The shallow clear blue waters and the less crowded beaches make it the perfect spot for fun with the family. You can splash around in the waters with children or visit Aulani, the Disney Resort and Spa for fun and relaxing activities for the whole family.

Waimea Bay Beach Park, Oahu

If you’re into surfing, then Waimea Bay Beach Park is the place to be. Located on Oahu’s less developed northern shore, the beach offers access to awe inspiring gigantic waves that any pro surfer would be happy to take on. The beach is especially popular during the winter months between November through to February when the waves swell to new height. It has played host to many of the top surfing competitions in Hawaii including the Vans Triple Crown. It’s the perfect spot to test your surfing skills.

Hapuna Beach, Hawaii

Visit Hapuna Beach if you want to experience white sands and quiet relaxation in a beach in Hawaii. The half mile stretch of beach is popular year round amongst tourists willing to make the trip as well as locals looking to spend time with their families. You will find many locals at the beach hanging out with friends or enjoying a family picnic. This beautiful spot is a hidden gem.

Polihua Beach, Lanai

If you’re looking for a unique experience, this beach offers just that. While it is not advisable to swim in the waters due to the strong currents, the long stretch of beach located on the northeastern shores of Lanai is the best place to spot humpback whales as well as green sea turtles. The quiet beach offers lots of privacy.

Makena Beach, Maui

Also known as Big Beach in Maui, this beach is popular amongst both tourists and locals. It’s the perfect spot for family fun on the beach. Enjoy local delicacies served from trucks and parks along the beach. It’s the perfect time to try some chicken tacos, shrimp or even mahi-mahi.

Papaohaku Beach, Molokai

This beach receives fewer visitors than many other beaches around Hawaii. This makes it a great choice for those looking for a quiet but beautiful setting for their holiday. You will have most of the three mile stretch of white sandy beach all to yourself.
