The amount of luxury resorts

Because Nuevo Vallarta is a beautiful destination popular with tourists, naturally a large amount of luxury resorts have sprung up to cater to 5-star vacation seekers. If you’re one such vacationer, know that there are a number of great options at your fingertips.

5-star resorts such as the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, the Grand Luxxe at Vidanta, and others await you. You can check availability and amenities from Fun Sun Mexico.

Playa Destiladeras

Considered to be one of the loveliest beaches in the Nuevo Vallarta area, Playa Destiladeras is a beautiful stretch of white-sand, going several miles along the north shore of Banderas Bay. It’s usually free to park during the week, though a fee (around 50 pesos) may be charged during the weekend. It’s a fun and safe beach for swimming, as there’s virtually no undertow, and the flat land is perfect for strolling in the sand.

Of all the beaches worth visiting in Nuevo Vallarta, this one should be at the top of your list. It is easily considered one of the top beaches along the bay, and getting there is a cinch. You can take an ATM Punta de Mita bus from La Cruz, which only costs around 30 pesos. The beach is a 5 minute walking distance from the drop off point on the highway. Taxis are also available if you prefer.

Local culture

Only 20 minutes driving distance from the Puerto Vallarta airport, you’ll find the stunning 200-mile stretch of coastline named Riviera Nayarit. It is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, but also the indigenous Huichol people, who have a vibrant and rich cultural history.

Famed for their colorful arts, crafts, and dress, the Huichol proudly display their handcrafted wares for tourists to purchase, which make far more interesting gifts for family and friends back home.

There are also numerous towns to discover, such as downtown Puerto Vallarta. There you’ll find historic colonial architecture, and a boardwalk that is full of sculptures by nationally recognized artists.

Marietas Islands

Just a few miles off the coast of Nayarit, you’ll find this popular tourist destination. It is teeming with marine life such as sea turtles, wild dolphins, octopodes, manta rays, thousands of tropical fish, and humpback whales. You’ll also see many species of birds, such as the blue-footed booby.

Amongst all the islands, perhaps the most popular is the Playa del Amor, also known as the Hidden Beach. It is a large hole formed on an island, with its own beach, so you are literally on a beach surrounded by island rock formation.

Getting to Marietas Islands is only about an hour ferry ride, and depending on the season, you should see plenty of dolphins and whales along the way. Once you arrive, there are tons of group activities available, such as tours, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more.
