Just 3 hours from Cairo is Alexandria, the city created by Alexander the Great. There is a good option for a day trip from Cairo. You can visit the Alexandria Library, Kom el Shoqafa Catacombs, the Pompey Column, the Qaitbay Citadel, the Roman Amphitheater, and a walk on the Stanley Bridge.
