What’s the big deal with ready to assemble furniture?

What is it?

RTA (ready to assemble) furniture is also referred to as ‘flat pack furniture’. As the name suggests if you buy some RTA furniture when it is delivered to you, it will be delivered in different parts, however, it will be easy to put together if you follow all of the instructions.

Today we’re going to look at what the big deal is behind RTA furniture and why it is becoming so popular lately. Also at the same time, we are going to be looking at some of the disadvantages of RTA furniture so that when it comes to the time to make a decision, you have all of the information you need in order to make the right decision.

What are the benefits?

There are many benefits to buying RTA furniture as opposed to pre-made furniture. The first benefit is that it is the more cost-effective solution. If you have to redecorate your whole house finding cheap RTA cabinets for example for your kitchen is essential and should be considered as one of the best ideas that you can have throughout the process. It means that you can spend more on other areas of the house or simply keep money aside for other overheads. It ends up being cheaper as the manufacturer doesn’t have to spend the time putting it together themselves, and it is also easier to ship or transport.

RTA furniture also comes in a range of different styles and colours, which makes it more appealing to a much wider audience, and this flexibility allows for it to fit around many different existing styles. Another benefit is how compact the package is that it comes in so that you won’t have to be squeezing it through any narrow doorways whereas if you were buying something that was pre-made you might encounter some issues before you’ve even got into the house.

Are there any downsides?

Yes, there are indeed downsides with flat-pack furniture, not too many but they’re still worth mentioning. The first and most obvious downside is that you have to assemble the furniture yourself, and sometimes this can be a difficult task and can also be quite frustrating. Also, some people think that RTA furniture can be quite simplistic in its design, so if you are looking for something a bit different or unique, it might be hard to come across. The durability of flat pack furniture, in general, is a lot less than that of pre-made furniture. The human-made MDF material won’t last anywhere near as long as that used to make flat pack furniture.

Now that you’ve heard both the advantages and disadvantages of RTA you can now make your own mind up as to whether it is perfect for you should you be needing to decorate and fix your house up. Overall the advantages heavily outweigh the disadvantages and the whole main point of RTA furniture is convenient for both the manufacturer and for us as the end users.
