We see famous celebrities on big screens, doing their jobs flawlessly, and receiving praise on red carpets while wearing expensive outfits. One can imagine them rolling in money and never have a worry about finances. But is that the whole truth?

In these modern times, the definition of success has almost always been associated with money. People who have more money are considered the most successful. The same rule applies to the celebrities of the world. They charge heavily for their talents, and it is common knowledge that some of them are worth billions. It is also obvious to think that since these celebrities are so rich, their siblings must be rolling in money too. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Success gets you money but to be successful, you have to have something in you. These celebrities’ siblings have proved that having a rich brother or sister is not a ticket to get unlimited money. Read on to know more about some of the biggest names in the world and their troubled siblings:

1. Mariah Carey

Commonly known as the “Queen of Christmas,” Mariah Carey has a couple of disturbed siblings. Her sister Allison worked as a prostitute and was heavily involved in drugs. Mariah broke off from her during the 90s despite Allison being HIV positive and in need of dire help. Her representatives have made it clear that she won’t be helping her sister, nor she wants her in her life. 

In 2013, Mariah’s brother, Morgan, used the cheapest trick in the market and defamed his star sister. He sold all kinds of lies to the tabloids in hopes of getting some money for his addictions. It was evident that Mariah was not helping her brother in any way. Honestly, we don’t blame her. She has young twins, and siblings like these would only be a bad influence.

2. The Kardashians

Surprised to see this name on the list? The Kardashians and Jenners are a bunch of super-rich people. Kim and her sister are worth billions collectively, thanks to their bold life choices. However, the same cannot be said by their brother Robert Arthur Kardashian. It seems that Robert is yet to find his way into the glam of life. He is currently jobless and living with his sister, Khloe. Thankfully, his mother, Kris Jenner, is generous enough to pay for him, but Robert has no money on his own.

3. Prince

Regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all time, Prince Roger Nelson was a soft-hearted person. He helped his sister, Tyka Nelson, a record deal that she successfully released, but her jealousy knew no bounds. Her brother’s massive popularity bugged her, and instead of polishing her skills, she gave in to a life of drugs. It is said that she had to sell her body to earn enough money to raise her sons. 

By this time, Prince has had enough, and he cut off from his sister. He did not want such negativity in his life, so he stopped supporting her. 

4. Josh Brolin

You know Josh as Thanos from the Avengers movies, but the Brolin family had been in the limelight for a long time. While James and his son Josh enjoy their lives in fame and money, Jess Brolin is spending his nights as a homeless man. According to reports, Jess was thrown out of his apartment in 2011, and since then, he has been living on the streets. He sleeps behind shops or wherever he sees fit. What’s more, is that he refuses to accept any help from his family. 

Apparently, Jess inherited a handsome sum from his biological mother, who died in 1995. It seems that he has long spent all his money and is now living a life of a destitute man.

5. Christopher Nolan

Nolan is famous for directing mind-boggling movies. His movies are considered cinematic masterpieces. Turns out, his brother seems nothing short of a character out of a typical Nolan movie. In 2005, Matthew Nolan was hired by a shady gem dealer, Robert Breska, to kill his accountant. Now Breska had already stolen £5 million from his accountant. Matthew conspired with a hotel’s bellboy and used a fake ID to do his job. The police caught the bellboy, and he eventually gave out Matthew’s name, but by that time, he had escaped from Costa Rica to the USA.

The story does not end here. The Costa Rican authorities tried their best to get Matthew deported for his crimes. He must have had extremely good luck because he was only charged with forging a fake ID and nothing else. Surprisingly, Matthew attempted to escape from Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center by using a 31 feet rope. 

In 2010, he was sentenced to 14 months in prison for attempted escape but was set free as he had already served 16 months. 

6. Paris Hilton

Sure, money can buy you many things, but it can never buy you common sense and respect. The peak example of this is the Hilton family. It seems that the rich heiress Paris is the only sane one of the lot. In 2015, her brother Conrad Hilton was arrested for threatening flight stewards during a British Airways flight. He continued yelling at the crew, making everyone uncomfortable. He also actively smoked weed in the airplane bathroom. 

When the crew tried to stop him, he threatened to get everyone fired using his father’s money as the reference. The crew finally managed to restrain him when he fell asleep. Conrad was sentenced to three years in prison with 750 hours of community work.

7. Gordon Ramsay

The culinary giant Gordon Ramsay needs no introduction. Not only he owns several chains of restaurants, but he is also a television personality appearing in reality shows. However, Gordon’s brother Ronnie is not spending a life of comfort. Ronnie has been struggling with drug addiction which led him to homelessness. Gordon admits that he had helped his brother get drugs during the late 90s, but now he has stopped enabling him. Like any other addict, he says that Ronnie lives one day at a time and seeks money that could possibly get him through the day. He hopes that Ronnie can be strong enough to support himself one day.

8. Leonardo DiCaprio

DiCaprio is one of the biggest names of Hollywood. His acting skills have garnered him several awards, including an Academy Award. Everyone loves watching Leo on screen but do you know that he took inspiration for acting from his stepbrother, Adam Farrar. Adam starred in some TV commercials and shows during the 1970s. He could not make a big name for himself, but he surely did enough to inspire Leonardo. 

Now, Adam has been running from the police for theft and other small crimes. He is accused of stealing $990 worth of merchandise and is also involved in drugs. Adam told the tabloids that he was once very close with his brother, but now everything has changed. He claims that he has been off drugs since 2013.

Everyone is born with their own set of skills and talents. While some people use their skills to make their careers strong, others depend too much on their loved ones for financial and moral support. The celebrities who have troubled siblings are just a few examples of such situations. Of course, they have to help their siblings, but there comes the point when they have to learn to pick themselves. Otherwise, the world moves on, and no one remembers a drug addict or a homeless person.
