Male Plastic Surgery Procedures on the Rise

views

As a male interested in getting a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure, you may feel uneasy given this field has long been a female pursuit. But as they say, change is constant.

If the last decade’s trends are anything to go by, more men are interested in these cosmetic enhancements. The reasons behind the increased uptake of cosmetic procedures among men are multifaceted, but the internet and social media are some of the biggest contributors.

Almost every American is on social media. More and more people want to feel good about themselves and feel younger, and for most, cosmetic procedures are a good solution.

With this in mind, this blog will analyze plastic surgery trends among men.

The Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures in Men

“We are seeing a growing number of men come into the office looking for procedures such as liposuction of the abdomen,” says Dr. Dave Lee of PURE Cosmetic Center. “Most of these individuals are actually already well aware of the pros and cons of the procedures they are interested in, primarily because of social media and the internet.”

Breast reduction is another cosmetic procedure that is becoming increasingly popular among males, as rates of gynecomastia have been rising over the past decade. Accordingly, a study from Denmark showed a fivefold increase in enlarged breasts in males aged between 16 and 20.

The same case can be seen in older men aged between 61 and 80 with an 11-time increase in gynecomastia diagnosis. These are some of the reasons we are seeing an increase in breast reduction cosmetic procedures in this gender.

Closing our analysis, data shows that lip augmentation is also gaining traction in the male population, with a jump of over 445 percent across the past two decades.

The Risks of Cosmetic Procedures

Plastic surgery has its fair share of risks, as with any other medical procedure. Here are a few of the common ones:

  • Poor cosmetic outcome: This is perhaps one of the biggest risks, at least in the eyes of the patient. Sometimes, the procedure may fail to yield the expected results, sometimes even making one’s appearance worse than before the surgery.
  • Scarring: This is another risk with most surgical procedures. Fortunately, in most circumstances, it is manageable.
  • Nerve Damage or Numbness: This is a risk present in all surgical procedures, but the results are more obvious when it is a facial procedure.

Infection: To prevent the risk of an infection after a surgical procedure, it is important to care for your wound properly.

That said, here are some recommendations to keep in mind if you decide to have a cosmetic procedure:

  • Have realistic expectations about the outcome
  • Understand the risks of the procedure
  • For better healing, steer clear of smoking or alcohol in the days leading up to the procedure

Final Words

If you are considering a plastic surgery procedure, consider working with an expert who has handled many successful procedures with positive client results. You can verify this using reviews and testimonials. Finally, be sure to check for the surgeon’s certifications and licensing to ensure they meet the required professional standards.
