Top 5 Best Romantic Movies On Netflix To Watch On Date Night

views

Whether you’re getting to know someone you’ve connected with via a dating site or you’ve been in a relationship for some time, it’s always fun arranging dates. And one of the most consistently enjoyable activities is movie appreciation. Watching a blockbuster with your significant other, seated side-by-side in plush seating while tucking into a communal popcorn tub is one thing. But a much cozier date night involves taking in a romantic movie on Netflix, snuggled together on a couch, perhaps over a few glasses of chilled wine. With that being said, Animedatings.com suggested top 5 movies on Netflix  for you to watch on a romantic date.

When We First Met (2018)

This charming film features a young couple, Noah (Adam DeVine) and Avery (Alexandra Daddario), who meet, with the former assuming this is a definite case of ‘love at first sight.’ Avery thinks otherwise. Three years later, while attending Avery’s engagement party to someone else, a strange glitch with a photobooth transports Noah back in time, to see if there could have been a different outcome. The time travel aspect gives his quest for true love a highly interesting twist, especially when things don’t work out as smoothly as he’d wished.

Her (2013)

In this quirky feature by Spike Jonze, the spectacularly named Theodore Twombly falls in love with Samantha, played by the iconic Scarlett Johansson. The main drawback of this relationship is that Samantha is a computer, personified by a female voice. This strange meld of science fiction and romance presents an unusual premise, full of unexpected twists, with a fair share of amusing scenes along the way that makes it ideal for your sofa.

Chasing Amy (1997)

Director Kevin Smith first came to prominence in the 1990s, becoming synonymous with low budget comedies, often featuring reversed-baseball cap-wearing slackers. In this, his third film, he explores more grounded themes, focusing on comic book artist Holden (Ben Affleck), who spends time spouting his casual romantic philosophies with his illustrating partner Banky (Jason Lee), only to find his somewhat one-dimensional outlook challenged when he falls for Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams). The problem with this attraction is Alyssa is a lesbian. Smith won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay for this film, and its gritty exploration of the complexities of love makes for gripping date night viewing.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

Director John Hughes is singularly responsible for a vast swathe of USA’s celebrated 80s movies. That none of these have dated means their sometimes bittersweet portrayal of love through the eyes of high school students and young adults are ideal for your date night. Unlike the deeper issues explored in, say, ‘The Breakfast Club,’ this movie, driven by Matthew Broderick’s charming miscreant, is simply a slice of joyful escapist hokum. Frequently breaking the fourth wall to involve the viewer, you’ll never tire of watching Ferris outwit the dull authority figures out to spoil his day off.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Romcoms are one thing for your date night, but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying an unashamedly sentimental and romantic fantasy feature either. In this much-loved film, remade more recently with Johnny Depp in the titular role, Gene Wilder is fantastic as the owner of the renowned chocolate factory. Here, five lucky children gain entry to his mouth-watering candy paradise courtesy of golden tickets. Its mixture of catchy tunes, exquisite set design, and wonderfully quirky characters (with Wilder’s gloriously eccentric performance uppermost) is what date nights were made for. Forget any trials and tribulations, and imagine securing your own golden ticket to the ultimate confectionary.
