The selection of the cooling tower system is carried out by the design organization or the design department of the enterprise on the basis of the heat engineering calculation performed by the developer-manufacturer of the cooling tower.   • The enterprise has a circulating water supply system, and the installed one for various reasons is out of order and needs to be replaced;
  • At the stage of development of the circulating water supply system, due to an error in the calculation, the initially selected tower does not cope with the task of removing heat. In this case, it is necessary to install an additional cooling tower or replace the existing one with a more powerful one.

Why should the developer do the calculation? Because only he has accurate information about the coefficient of heat and mass transfer, the sprinkler, which is installed in this tower, about the properties of the droplet separator, about the air flow rate (fan characteristic), about the resistance of the cooling tower.

The device and principle of operation of the cooling tower systems

Let’s consider how the prevalent fan cooling towers are arranged. Inside the tower, there is a reservoir where hot aqua from production is supplied, for example, during the generating of electricity at a thermal power station. A large, powerful fan is installed at the top. Its blades rotate, which leads to forced evaporation of water. The resulting steam partly flows back into the tank in the form of condensate, and partly escapes into the ambience. Thus, the liquid is cooled.

Industrial cooling towers are completed with ventilation facilities. The fan is installed on top of the case and is needed for forced blowing of cooled water with atmospheric air. The fan motor terminal box is provided with an additional seal to protect it from any kind of moisture.

There is also a series of highly specialized dry cooling towers including chillers with a flexible configuration system that allows you to fully adapt the installation to your specific project tasks and your business needs. In industrial areas, they are recommended to be installed taking into account the unimpeded supply of fresh air, especially if the structures operate on natural draft. It is also necessary to take into account the Rose of the Winds and the fact that in winter, drops of water and steam move to the side. The installation uses data on the level of humidity and nebula that is characteristic of the region.
